Mike Tye
Chair of Trustees
Since 2015, Mike has focused solely on Non-Exec roles, as a board member or chair of a wide range of commercial as well as charitable organisations.
As well as The Hospice of St Francis, he currently chairs other charities and private companies.
Mike and his wife, Elsa, have lived in Berkhamsted for 30+ years, and are long-standing supporters of the Hospice.
Debashis Dasgupta
Deputy Chair of Trustees
Debashis has led large multinational businesses, more recently as a CEO of a healthcare business in the UK and Ireland. Debashis sits on the board for a number of companies, both in the Charity and Private sector.
Debashis is a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Management Accountant and lives in Pinner.
Tim Symington
Treasurer
Since April 2018 he has been a director for Financial Intelligence at Lloyds Banking Group. Prior to that he spent 26 years working for government, including five years as a main board director for the National Crime Agency. Earlier in his career he worked for the MoD in defence intelligence and between 2010 and 2012 he was seconded to the Department of Transport to oversee the transport security programme for the London Olympics. He has worked in a non-executive capacity for HMGCC, a government research agency specialising in security technology. Tim is also a qualified management accountant. Tim and his family have lived in Berkhamsted since 1997.
Shailen Rao
Trustee
He has successfully led a variety of medicines management services and projects in primary care for CCGs, PCTs and individual GP practices. The common principle in each of these services is the implementation of quality outcomes relating to medicines use that also have the patient and individual healthcare practitioner’s needs in mind – Soar Beyond has saved the NHS millions of pounds whilst also improving quality and reducing risk. In a career spanning more than 25 years working within, and with, the NHS Shailen has also been involved in a number of strategic and support roles relating to medicines management, pharmacy and commissioning / service re-design in primary care. Shailen has previously held posts as Diabetes Lead at Hillingdon PCT, Head of Medicines Management and Lead for Community Pharmacy Development. He has also been instrumental in a number of nationally acclaimed medicines management, health economy and community pharmacy initiatives. Shailen and his family live in Hemel Hempstead.
Jenny Jenkins
Trustee
She has experience in professional services marketing and communications, and is qualified as a Chartered Marketer with the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Starting her career advising lawyers in London and New York on business development, Jenny has more recently worked as editor for the National Pharmacy Association, and then as Group Editor at LaingBuisson, a company which reports on the UK and international private healthcare and social care markets.
Jenny strongly believes in giving back to the Berkhamsted community. For the last 10 years she has been a school governor of two local Church schools and has recently become a trustee for a group of 11 schools spread across Herts and Beds. She is also a trustee of a local Scout group. Through these roles she has developed skills in community stakeholder management, organisational change, financial oversight and safeguarding in the public and charity sectors.
Jenny and her family live in Berkhamsted.
Massimo Petronio
Trustee
Massimo has over 30 years' experience in international business leadership roles in the UK, Europe and globally. He is a member of the Advisory Board of Migrant Leaders, an independent UK charity and runs his own consultancy business.
Massimo and his wife Daniela have been living in Berkhamsted for 20 years.
Eddie Powell
Trustee
He is a commercial lawyer and a partner in a central London law firm. His specialist legal areas include commercial contracts, intellectual property, data protection, and e-commerce.
Eddie is keen to apply his legal expertise to help the Hospice maintain its principals of sound governance and careful risk management, as well as helping the Hospice with legal compliance in its commercial and fundraising efforts. Eddie first became aware of the Hospice as a result of his daughter’s school’s fund raising efforts.
Eddie lives in Hemel Hempstead, but can regularly be found walking his dogs in the countryside around Berkhamsted.
Phillip Sewell
Trustee
Phillip currently runs his own Digital Transformation Consultancy which helps UK retailers develop and execute their digital strategy through the use of digital technology and process improvements in order to maximise sales and reduce operating costs. Phillip has over 20 years’ experience within the retail sector and has held leadership positions in IT delivery and E-Commerce strategy for various blue chip retailers.
Phillip lives in St. Albans with his wife and three children, he enjoys reading, cooking and is currently learning karate with his son both of whom started training together in 2016.
Richard Houghton
Trustee
Richard spent the first 35 years of his career in public relations consultancy working in and running agencies supporting clients internationally across consumer, technology and telecoms and pharmaceutical sectors. He ran his own specialist technology agency for a decade. An expert in running people based business Richard co-authored a practical guide on how to run and build an agency and enjoy it.
He is Chair of Trustees of the Will Houghton Foundation which supports charities to help young people (14-24 years) reach their potential through education and sport. Richard lives in Buckinghamshire and gets on the water as often as he is can to sail and windsurf.
Kathryn Magson
Trustee
Kathryn is a Cambridge music graduate with a subsequent Masters of Business Administration. She spent 17 years in financial services, ultimately with responsibility for relationship management, risk and sales in commercial banking at a regional level for a large bank. Kathryn transitioned to the public sector where she has undertaken significant turnaround roles and also led complex NHS organisations in London and Hertfordshire.
Kathryn is passionate about making a difference in the community, patient and service user engagement, and delivering high quality sustainable care that meets the needs of the population. She has been a local resident for nearly 20 years and has extensive knowledge of our local integrated health and care system and key stakeholders within. She hopes to bring this knowledge and passion for making a sustainable difference for the local community in her role as a trustee.
Parul Kanabar

She is a CIMA qualified accountant with over 20 years of CFO/FD experience. The breadth of experience includes managing finance, M&A, IT, contracts and governance across multiple international entities focusing on clinical research, security and medical assistance, distribution of medicine and manufacturing of healthcare products.
Parul is currently a consultant CFO supporting a unique women’s lifestyle M&A Investment Consortium specialising in “Investing in the Legacy of Women”.
She is extremely passionate about helping people and hopes to make a difference to the growth and sustainability of the hospice.
Parul lives in Ruislip with her husband and very much enjoys outdoor activities.

Paul Forster MBE
Trustee
He brings a wide range of experience of Chair, CEO, NED and Marketing Management roles plus roles in academia including Deputy Chair of the Board of Governors of Nottingham Trent University and a Visiting Professor at Nottingham and at Birmingham City Business Schools.
After leaving University with a degree in Industrial Economics, Paul joined Cadbury Schweppes for 10 years and became a Market Manager before moving to the communications/advertising industry where he was Chair/CEO of Top Ten organisations across more than 20 years.
In the 1990’s he formed Lifetime Business Group Ltd. which was a thought leader in the fusion of marketing, customer relationships and data analysis. He later sold the company to an international technology company.
He was Chair of the Board of Prostate Cancer UK for 9 years retiring in 2013.
Paul is currently also Chair of Berkhamsted Sports Grounds Charitable Association Ltd. He lives in Potten End and has been an Association Member of the Hospice for many years.
