Support for you

There are many ways the Hospice can help if you or a family member are diagnosed with a serious illness.

The Spring Centre, our health and wellbeing hub

Our Spring Centre is a free health and wellbeing centre which can help you to live your precious life well. We’re here for adults who have a serious illness such as cancer or who have a neurological, heart or lung condition.

Everyone who comes to the Spring Centre is seen initially by a senior nurse who will spend time getting to know you to understand your illness and how it is affecting your daily life.

They will then recommend appropriate services, which may include physiotherapy, support groups, complementary or creative therapy to help improve your wellbeing, health, independence and confidence.

Care at Home

Many people prefer to receive some support at home for their illness. Our team of ten community nurses and healthcare assistants, supported by doctors and therapists, will keep in contact with you by phone, visiting you and your family and providing reassurance and advice for physical, emotional and practical needs.

The Hospice of St Francis Specialist Nurse Team will work closely with your GP, District Nurses and other health care professionals and will also help signpost you onto further services which may help you if required. They are contactable from Monday to Sunday, 9am - 5pm, on 01442 869553.

We also have our ‘Rapid Personalised Care Service’ where a team of specially trained healthcare assistants will go into a person’s home to offer daily personal care and advice. To access this service you need to be referred directly by a professional.

If yourself, a relative or partner would like to be considered for Care at Home please do fill in our short referral form.

A stay in our Inpatient Unit

Our IPU (short for Inpatient Unit) combines home comforts with 24-hour specialist healthcare.

An average short stay with us, usually up to 11 days, can help improve difficult symptoms like severe pain, breathlessness, nausea or anxiety with many patients returning to their home or nursing home afterwards. Unfortunately, we don’t offer long-term care.

We have ten bedrooms opening directly onto our beautiful gardens and all patients needs are taken care of with fresh linen, televisions in the bedroom, private bathrooms and a choice of delicious home-cooked food from our award-winning catering team. Food and nutrition are at the heart of our patient care and we are passionate about helping people who have lost their appetite through illness to enjoy food again. We cater for all dietary requirements and are also able to cater for family celebrations. We can also provide food for family members at a small cost.

Of course, we also care for patients who are close to the end of their lives, helping them to feel safe and supported and caring for their family at this difficult time.

To contact our IPU directly to discuss a patient who is already receiving care and staying with us, please contact: 01442 869553.
