Current Volunteering Opportunities

“Everyone has a talent that gets better for using it and the Hospice needs all the talents.”

Pam Macpherson, Founder of The Hospice of St Francis

Our team of volunteers is integral to making #YourPreciousLife truth for all who come into contact with The Hospice of St Francis, providing a place to belong. They are a hand in the darkness, and have become people to rely upon; helping to support fundraising, providing a warm embrace, highlighting our work in the community and keeping everything running smoothly. Our volunteers ensure that the community knows 'every life is precious.'

Thanks to all those who give their time, skills and energy, diligently supporting the work of the Hospice.

We celebrate the work of our volunteers and show our appreciation through:

  • Celebrating Volunteer’s Week; taking place in June each year
  • Acknowledging exceptional volunteers and nominating them for Hospice UK or local charity awards
  • Thanking our volunteers every time they come to help!
  • Handing out Long Service Certificates and badges to those who have volunteered for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years.

The Queens Award

In 2019 the Hospice was awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work in their communities.

This huge honour is testament to the passion, skills and time which our volunteers (aged 14-92!) give us across 70 very varied roles.

Read about why some of our current volunteers support the Hospice with their time.

For more information on any of the above opportunities, please contact Voluntary Services or apply online.  If you are in year 11 or below, please complete our Young Person Application Form.
