We were delighted to help facilitate a public meeting in Berkhamsted, ‘Dying Matters: A Conversation for Us All’ to help people consider the importance of having open and honest conversations with their family, friends and healthcare professionals about what matters to them now and if they were unwell or dying in the future. We were joined by clinicians from Rennie Grove Peace Hospice and Rothschild House Group.
Dr Sarah Klinger from Rennie Grove Peace Hospice gave an overview of end-of-life care in the UK. Our joint Head of Education, Claire Nicell, offered advice for starting conversations about one’s wishes around illness, dying and death. And Dr Kate Thomson from Rothschild House explained the practical side, such as the ReSPECT form, which helps people express their wishes around emergency care. Fay Richardson, our Director of Care, offered insights into the services available locally.
There was time for the attendees to enjoy refreshments, have their blood pressure taken and ask the panel questions. The clinicians responded to queries about everything from support for carers to the legality of lasting power of attorney. The event was well attended with fifty audience members offering overwhelmingly positive feedback.
