Ray’s tips for visiting a patient in Hospice

  1. The most important thing is your presence. Don’t feel that you need to entertain.

  2. Sometimes sitting with somebody and holding their hand can be the most significant thing. Touch can have powerful effects, both spiritually and psychologically.

  3. A good question is: How are you feeling about things today?

  4. Don’t be afraid to talk about what’s Some people suffer because nobody will talk to them honestly.

  5. You can ask: Is there anything you’d like to talk about or would you prefer to just sit together?

  6. Finally, give yourself permission not to have to say anything. The most important thing is that they know you care.
